Swelling also hides the outcome early on, so the result you see at two weeks is rarely the final one. Most body procedures settle over three to six months, while scars continue to fade for up to a year.

Who is a good candidate?

Good candidates are in reasonable general health, have a specific concern they can describe clearly, and understand that recovery takes time. Being at a stable weight helps considerably for body procedures. Furthermore, patients who do not smoke heal noticeably better, so we usually ask smokers to stop for a few weeks before and after surgery.

Some people are better served by waiting. If you are planning a pregnancy soon, recovering from a major illness, or going through a stressful period, postponing is often the wiser choice.

Common myths worth clearing up

• Laser hair reduction does not guarantee permanent removal for everyone. It reduces growth substantially over several sessions.
• Results are not instant. Almost every procedure looks better at three months than at three weeks.
